Training Program Announcements Massachusetts DEP Approved Training Program for Operators of pH Adjustment Systems and Industrial/Groundwater Wastewater Treatment Facilities This 7 week program is recommended for persons seeking Certification Status (Grades I and II). To become certified, IWW/GWT plant operators must pass a certification exam administered by the Massachusetts Board of Operators. This DEP approved training program is conducted by M&A technical staff with extensive experience in the design, operation, and maintenance of industrial wastewater and groundwater treatment systems, and occupational safety and health. M&A has regularly conducted this course and successfully trained thousands of personnel since 1985. Currently the pass rate on the Massachusetts operator exam for graduates of the M&A program taking the grades 1 or 2 operator exam is >90% compared to the state wide passing rate of <50%. Course topics include: wastewater math, chemistry review-preliminary treatment, physical-chemical treatment, treatment of metal waste streams pumps, and maintenance-troubleshooting safety. The course is DEP approved for up to 24.5 training contact hours, based on actual hours of attendance. Text books and course materials are included in the cost of the program. Hazardous Waste DOT/RCRA Refresher Training for Massachusetts Generators This course is recommended for anyone involved in hazardous waste management especially within hospital, biotech and/or R&D operations. Annual hazardous waste RCRA training is required for Large Quantity Generators and triennial hazardous materials DOT training is required for anyone who signs hazardous waste manifests. Both US EPA and MA DEP have been aggressively pursuing enforcement of these regulations at area institutions. Description: This one (1) day training course is specifically designed for Massachusetts generators of hazardous waste and will be delivered by a team of instructors with hands-on experience that will help improve your compliance programs. This course will help you to understand your responsibilities and risks, prepare for regulatory changes and will provide an opportunity to network with other EH&S professionals. This course will also provide eight (8) Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator Training Contact Hours (TCH) – licensed operators need 20 TCHs by 12/31/09. Training dates coming soon. First Responder Operations Level Training Program Funded by the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) This “free*” First Responder Operations Level training program is recommended for laboratory personnel, facility/maintenance managers, wastewater treatment operators, EHS managers, security Description: OSHA requires that chemical spill emergency responders be trained annually. The eight-hour seminar is for individuals who provide limited response to a release or potential release of hazardous materials. The training will include an overview of the OSHA standard, 29CFR1920.120(q); hazardous substance identification and hazard recognition; routes of exposure; personal protective equipment; basic spill control procedures and emergency planning. The course is also DEP approved for eight (8) Training Contact Hours (TCH) for licensed wastewater operators. Please note that if you have already received training under this grant program, you are not eligible to receive additional training under this program. First Responder Awareness Level Training (FRAL) Funded by the Massachusetts Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) This "free" OSHA and LEPC mandated seminar is recommended for municipal first responders, facility/maintenance managers, wastewater operators, EHS managers or anyone who has emergency response/ planning duties involving HAZMAT chemical spills. The training is required by the Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPC) for Tier 2 reporting facilities. Description: This 4-hour seminar is for individuals who may discover a hazardous substance release/spill and initiate the emergency response. The training will include an overview of the OSHA standard; hazardous substance identification and hazard recognition; routes of exposure; responder roles; and emergency planning. The course is also DEP approved for Training Contact Hours for licensed wastewater operators. On-site training is available for groups of 15 or more employees. Description: OSHA requires that workers working at hazardous waste sites or hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facilities receive annual HAZWOPER refresher training. This interactive training program will include an overview of the OSHA standard; hazardous substance identification and hazard recognition; routes of exposure; personal protective equipment; safety hazards, basic spill control procedures and emergency planning.
