Health and Safety Consultant

Mabbett is seeking to recruit an experienced Health and Safety professional to join our growing team as a Health and Safety Consultant.

The position offered will be based at our Glasgow office, however, this is negotiable. The position will require travel (including occasional overnight stays) throughout the U.K., Ireland and Europe, depending on project requirements.

Qualifications required to join Team Mabbett

The successful candidate will possess:

  • a degree/postgraduate qualification in one of the following disciplines: health and safety, environmental health/science, engineering, or a related subject;
  • the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety (or close to completion);
  • minimum of 2 years experience of working in the manufacturing/engineering sector, or as a consultant;
  • good writing and personal communication skills;
  • proficiency in computer packages including Microsoft Office® packages: Word, Access, and Excel, and
  • a valid, clean driver’s licence.

Desirable criteria:

  • experience of Occupational Hygiene work, and/or
  • experience with CDM Regulations, and/or
  • experience of conducting legionella risk assessments, and/or
  • knowledge of Environmental legislation, and/or
  • knowledge and experience of integrated management systems, and/or
  • membership, or be seeking to attain membership, of a professional organisation for example  BOHS, IOSH, IIRSM, etc.

Overview of the position at Team Mabbett

As a member of the Environmental, Health & Safety Team, the successful candidate will primarily be responsible for supporting the delivery of Occupational Hygiene monitoring services, including monitoring for airborne hazardous substances and undertaking occupational noise assessments.

The successful candidate will also be required to assist with wider health & safety tasks, to include: health & safety risk assessments, audits and management systems. Existing skills and knowledge, e.g. CDM Regulations, environmental legislation, will also be utilised.

The successful candidate will be provided with all necessary training and support, including mentoring, job shadowing and professional training, as required.

The successful candidate will also support the firm’s Marketing and Business Development activities on an as-needed basis within the U.K., Ireland and Europe. 

This position is not aimed at those holding a post doctorate degree or currently working at Director level.

Pool/hire vehicles are provided for travel by road.

For travel by air, a valid passport and photo ID is required.

Environmental Professionals

Mabbett is seeking to recruit additional Environmental Professionals to join Team Mabbett namely Consultants; Engineers; or Scientists with Senior positions also available.

The positions will be based at our Northern Ireland office in Belfast and travel will most likely be required throughout the U.K., Ireland, Europe and the U.S.A. depending on project requirements.

Skills Required to Join Team Mabbett

Education and Experience:

  • Honours or Masters Degree in environmental science, environmental management, environmental engineering or a related subject.
  • Membership (graduate, affiliate, associate or full) of a related professional institute for example: IEMA; CIWM; CIWEM; IChemE; IMechE, etc.
  • The successful candidate(s) will possess the following types of desirable skills:
    • Integrated Management Systems development and implementation experience to include: environmental; health & safety; quality, and/or energy.  
    • Experience of conducting integrated resource efficiency audits and developing an associated prioritised action plan.
    • Experience of compliance engineering and/or engineering design.

Personal Attributes:

  • Self motivation and a desire and enthusiasm to be successful.
  • The ability to present technical information clearly to both operator level staff and management (whether on a one-to-one basis, in meetings, or as a trainer).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
  • The selected candidate will be a ‘self-starter’ and commercial awareness is an advantage.
  • Adaptable and flexible combined with technical excellence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages.
  • Full UK driving licence.

 Overview of the Position at Team Mabbett

The successful candidate(s) will work within the Team Mabbett, Belfast office. Typical projects the successful candidate(s) will be expected to undertake will include but will not be limited to the following:

  • Conducting integrated resource efficiency audits and identifying cost and environmental savings (e.g. in waste, materials, energy and/or water) as well as the design of prioritised action plans and associated implementation support to realise the improvements.
  • Assisting with client environmental issues to include: setting up, implementing and monitoring environmental improvement programmes and providing legal compliance assistance.
  • Liaising with clients to assist with full or partial development and implementation of a management system to include: integrated management systems.
  • Design and delivery of environmental training presentations.
  • Design of environmental pollution control systems.
  • Preparation of environmental permits.

The selected candidate(s) will also provide marketing and business development support, identifying new clients and opportunities, to support the growth and expansion of Team Mabbett primarily within Northern Ireland and Ireland.

The selected candidate(s) will work within a supportive, friendly and driven team, contributing to meeting Team Mabbett targets. 

Some travel is involved, for which a company pool car is available.  Occasionally travel by air will be required, for which a valid passport and photo ID is required.
