Environmental Consultant (EMS)

Background

We are recruiting a full-time Environmental Consultant (EMS) to join our dynamic team at our busy and expanding office in Glasgow city centre.

Skills Required

  • Bachelors (Hons) or Masters Degree in environmental science, environmental management or a related subject.
  • Minimum of one year industry or consultancy experience.
  • ISO 14001 EMS experience.  
  • The ability to present environmental information clearly to both operator level staff and management (whether on a one-to-one basis, in meetings, or as a trainer).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential to this role, together with excellent attention to detail.
  • The selected candidate will be a ‘self-starter’ and commercial awareness is an advantage. 
  • Adaptable and flexible combined with technical excellence.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Professional software packages.
  • Full UK driving licence.

The following is desirable:

  • Construction related experience including Site Waste Management Planning.
  • Affiliate or Associate Membership of IEMA.
  • Own car.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will carry out Environmental Management Systems (EMS) related work with clients throughout the U.K., and will be supported by experienced M&A Project Managers.

Technically, the job involves liaising with clients to help implement their EMS and assist with their environmental issues, setting up, implementing and monitoring environmental improvement programmes and providing legal compliance assistance.

The job also involves identifying cost savings (e.g. in waste, materials, energy and water) and also design and delivery of Environmental Awareness presentations and related Environmental Training.  

The selected candidate will work within a supportive and driven team, contributing to meeting Group targets for sales and project completion.
 
Some travel is involved, for which a pool car is available.  Occasionally travel by air may be required, for which a valid passport and photo ID is required.

Health, Safety and Environmental Consultant(s)

Background

Mabbett & Associates Ltd is seeking experienced full and part-time Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Consultant(s) for its Glasgow office. Experience in the manufacturing sector is required. Travel, primarily within the U.K., will be required subject to project assignments.

Skills Required

The successful candidate(s) will have:

  • an Honours Bachelors or Masters Degree (preferred) in one of the following disciplines: health and safety, environmental management, environmental science or a related subject;
  • a minimum General NEBOSH Certificate in Health and Safety;
  • membership/chartered status with an appropriate professional organisation for example IOSH, BOHS, IEMA, (chartered status preferred for certain positions);
  • demonstrated and progressive experience in either consultancy or manufacturing;
  • knowledge of relevant health and safety, and environmental legislation to include: Health and Safety at Work Act, the Six Pack, Environmental Protection Act, Waste Management Regulations (Duty of Care, Special Waste, WEEE etc) Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control, Water Regulations (CAR, Oil Storage etc);
  • experience of negotiating and dealing with regulatory bodies, local authorities and private clients;
  • experience with project scoping, budgeting and the preparation of associated tenders;
  • excellent writing and personal communication skills;
  • the ability to present environmental, health and safety information clearly to both shop floor workers and management;
  • experience in training programme development and presentation;
  • proficiency in Microsoft Office® packages: Word, Access, and Excel, and 
  • a valid, clean driver’s license.

Experience/Responsibilities

This position requires experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • conducting occupational hygiene monitoring programmes (area and personal sampling, use of direct reading instruments, etc.), indoor air quality surveys, regulated building material surveys, noise assessments.
  • conducting risk assessments, including legislation specific, e.g. COSHH, DSE, Fire, and health and safety audits, development and reviewing of health and safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • developing and delivering health and safety, and environmental training.
  • developing, designing and implementing individual and/or integrated health and safety, quality and environmental management systems to include: OHSAS 18001/ISO 14001/BS 8555/ISO 9001.
  • IPPC permit application preparation activities.
  • legal compliance auditing including experience of duty of care requirements for waste.
  • resource efficiency and waste minimisation audits to include energy, water and waste.

The successful candidate(s) will also support the firm’s Marketing and Business Development activities on an as-needed basis within the U.K., Ireland and the EU.

Health and Safety/CDM Co-ordinator Consultant

Mabbett & Associates Ltd (M&A), an award winning and growing international environmental, health and safety consulting and engineering firm are seeking to recruit a full-time Health and Safety / CDM Co-ordinator Consultant to join our team in Glasgow. This is an entry to mid-level position to support the current Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) Team.

Skills Required

The selected candidate will:

  • be educated to Bachelors or Masters level in a relevant subject;
  • hold a minimum General Certificate/Construction Certificate in Health and Safety and professional membership of IOSH or related organisations;
  • have knowledge and experience of health and safety and the Construction (Design and Management) (CDM) Regulations 2007;
  • it is desirable that the selected candidate will also have experience in industrial hygiene, noise and dust monitoring, risk assessments (either in consultancy, manufacturing, or industrial placement context);
  • have a structured and methodical approach to work;
  • have excellent communication (written, oral and presentation), team-work and organisational skills;
  • be proficient with Microsoft Professional software packages; and
  • hold a current driving licence.

Responsibilities

The successful applicant's responsibilities will include: working as a CDM Co-ordinator for M&A client projects; assisting with occupational hygiene monitoring programmes; noise assessments and surveys; performing risk assessments, health and safety audits, manual handling training, and COSHH assessments; developing and delivering Health and Safety (H&S) training and management systems (OHSAS 18001); writing and evaluation of H&S policies and procedures; and marketing and business development.

This post may include involvement in environmental projects such as environmental legislation tasks and environmental management systems.  Flexibility in both environmental and health and safety project experience is of value to the EH&S Team. Mentoring and internal training opportunities will be aligned for the right candidates.
