IPPC Consulting and Environmental Permitting
Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) is a European Directive (95/16/EC) that was transposed into U.K. national law as the Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) Regulations. Through an integrated permitting process, operators must apply the concept of "Best Available Technique" (BAT) to their activities in order to achieve, and subsequently maintain, a high level of environmental protection, by measures designed to prevent, or where that is not practicable, reduce emissions to air, water and land. All industrial operations, above certain pre-determined thresholds, were required to apply for a permit to operate by the end of October 2007; including major energy, chemical and process industries, metal production, waste management and disposal activities and other operations such as intensive farming of certain livestock. Continued operation without a permit beyond this date may result in significant legal and financial implications for your business. The application process requires the submission to the Regulator, of concise yet detailed information covering all aspects of your installations activities. Once granted, the permit requires continuous improvement from that date onwards, to be achieved via the implementation of a phased program of activities designed to address the environmental performance of the permitted installation. Over time, your permit may need to be modified, varied, transferred or surrendered, in order to reflect changes to the installation or the way it is operated. Mabbett & Associates Ltd (M&A) can assist you by providing an additional resource and technical expertise at all stages of the permitting process.
