Air Quality and Indoor Air Quality

1. Local Exhaust Ventilation and Air Pollution Control System (Rhode Island)

M&A designed a Local Exhaust Ventilation System consisting of hoods, ductwork, integral exhaust fan, and a wet scrubber for a manufacturer of a variety of decorative ornaments and other specialty photochemically machined parts. The manufacturer reduced its emissions of HAPs by 95%, with the new system, and so avoided regulation of the facility as a Major Source and eliminated the need for a Title V permit.

2. LEV/APC Design (Massachusetts)

For a manufacturer of various products including art gum erasers, lampshade cleaning puffs, wallpaper cleaning pads, and a vibration reducing additive for concrete, M&A designed a LEV system with a scrubber system to control S2Cl2 emissions. The scrubber system has an overall removal efficiency of 96-98& of S2Cl2, 99% of hydrochloric acid (HCl) aerosol of 2 microns or greater, 99% of HCl vapor, and 99% of SOx emissions. The LEV system was designed in accordance with the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGH) guidelines.

3. LEV and APC Systems and Regulatory Reporting (Massachusetts)

M&A assisted a manufacturer of vibration and motion isolators that uses VOC-based adhesives in preparation of metal parts for bonding to molded rubber isolators, in improvements to personal exposure monitoring, materials tracking, emissions calculations, air source registration, design, and permitting for LEV and APC systems to control volatile organic compounds. This project has included assisting with the design of manufacturing equipment, including the retrofit of a novel spray-tumble painting machine and design of new paint booths equipped with automatic drying system.
