Compliance Audits and Assessments

1. Veteran's Administration Hospitals

M&A's audits of four VA facilities/complexes, with as many as 20 buildings per site, to inventory potentially hazardous products stored on-site, dealt with oil, compressed gases, hazardous wastes, laboratory chemicals, and other chemical products. The audit targeted the facilities' compliance with Right-to-Know and Toxic Release Inventory reporting, oil spill prevention control and countermeasures (SPCC) and emergency contingency planning requirements. M&A developed a chemical management database, created a manual, and carried out on-site training for VA staffers in its use and maintenance. Follow-up consisted of preparation of SPCC plans, pollution prevention plans and preparation of emergency response/contingency plans.

2. Metropolitan District Commission Audit Program

M&A's Safety and Health audit of the Massachusetts Water Resources Agency's sanitary sewerage system resulted in M&A's developing a technical audit protocol, conducting nineteen (19) on-site audits and preparation of a detailed audit report of findings and recommendations. Using M&A's results, the agency identified physical upgrade and other improvements required to provide a safer work environment for MDC employees and to improve overall operation of the system.

3. Pre-Purchase Acquisition Audits

M&A conducted fifteen (15) audits of biomedical laboratory facilities in New England, New Jersey, and New York for a major corporation, in order to identify any environmental regulatory or permitting non-compliance issues. Audit areas included solid, hazardous and biomedical waste management; asbestos management; water pollution control, wastewater treatment, sewer discharge and septic system issues, air pollution control and permitting requirements, as well as potential contaminated site issues. M&A provided assistance in correcting potential non-compliances and identifying alternative processes and procedures to reduce or remove regulatory requirements.
