Pollution Prevention/Waste Minimization

1. Manufacturer of Silver Plated Plastic Products

M&A's chemical engineer and toxic reduction planner worked with plant personnel to identify best options for reducing silver, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and chromic acid in manufacturing processes. Costs and payback for toxics use reduction (TUR) options were determined and a schedule for implementing feasible options was established.

2. Electronic Materials Manufacturer

The TUR Plan prepared by the environmental manager of the facility was reviewed and certified by M&A's certified planner. Production units included nickel, gold, and tin plating of coils of metal strips used in electronic components. Toxic chemicals included copper, nickel, and sulfuric and hydrochloric acid.

3. Manufacturer of Inks

M&A developed a TUR plan for a manufacturer of solvent-based inks, including rotogravure, flexographic, and ultraviolet inks. Planning was conducted for toluene, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and ethyl acetate.
