EPA Finalizes Longer Accumulation Time For F006 Sludge
The US EPA has finalized draft regulations that ease the 90 day storage limit for F006
sludge. The rule will increase to 180 days the length of time that a large quantity generator
may store wastewater treatment sludge generated from electroplating processes provided that
the sludge is recycled via metals recovery. The rule seeks to increase the amount of sludge
recycled through metals recovery rather than being land disposed. The longer allowable
accumulation time will make the recycling option cost effective for many generators who
previously could not utilize the recycling option.
