Techno Bits/Technical Bulletins OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH - ARCHIVED April 21, 2006 - OSHA Identifies 14,000 Workplaces with High Injury and Illness Rates The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has released a list of 14,000 employers who have an injury and illness rate higher than average. Each employer on the list has received a notification letter from OSHA, and it urges them to seek assistance with safety and health issues. The data used for selection was from the survey that selected employers were required to fill out and return to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The companies included on this list were not selected from the states with approved safety and health state plans, but from the remaining 29 states that are covered by federal OSHA. The national average DART rate for 2004 was 2.5 for every 100 workers, and OSHA identified only the workplaces that had an incidence rate above 6.00 for every 100 workers. OSHA's criterion for inclusion in this list dropped from last year's rate of 6.5.
