Massachusetts DEP Proposes Changes to MCP Numerical Standards

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has proposed changes to numerical standards in the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP). These include changes to reportable concentrations (RCs), soil and groundwater risk standards (Method 1 criteria), and upper concentration limits (UCLs). Also proposed was the inclusion of several chemicals, such as asbestos, in these standards. Further information on the specifics of this proposal are available at DEP's website, www.state.ma.us/dep/bwsc/files/sac/sac0501.htm. The next meeting of the MCP Notification and Cleanup Standards Work Group will be held at DEP's Boston Office on July 19, 2001.
