WATER AND WASTEWATER - ARCHIVED
Silver Sampling Due for MWRA Group Permit Holders
Printers and photoprocessors who perform any on-site silver recovery prior to discharging
photoprocessing wastewater to an MWRA Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) must perform at
least annual wastewater monitoring for silver to ensure the discharge from the facility is less
than 2 parts per million. Some MWRA Group Permits may require more frequent sampling. All required
samples must be collected and analyzed by December 31, 2001. Therefore, now is the time to schedule
any necessary sampling to ensure compliance.
Samples must be collected according to MWRA policies and the permit requirements and the
laboratory that performs the analysis must provide you the results in paper form and on a
computer disk using the MWRA's SMART computer program. If any samples exceed the 2 ppm
limit for silver, corrective actions must be taken and re-sampling performed within 30 days. All
CY2001 monitoring results must be reported to the MWRA on the Annual Group Permit Compliance
Report due each spring.
