Mabbett & Associates, Inc. (Mabbett®), an award-winning and industry-leading environmental, health and safety, and engineering consulting firm, is seeking a full-time senior scientist to support the firm’s growing natural resources practice, with an emphasis on assignments working under the provisions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and in a wide range of state and local jurisdictions.

This position will serve the federal, state, local, and commercial sectors with assignments that include assessing the potential impacts of infrastructure and development projects, performing wetland delineations, designing wetland and habitat mitigation, conducting biological inventories, preparing regulatory agency permit applications, and supporting NEPA and state-equivalent reports. This role will work with a wide variety of clients and project types, from small local developments to large federal projects.

This senior-level position will require technical leadership, client management, business development, and working with and/or supporting other practice areas within the firm. The candidate selected for this position will provide technical expertise, lead project implementation, and assist the firm’s Environmental Planning and Remediation Group Director to develop strategies for growth of the firm over time.

This position is based out of our corporate office in Stoneham, Massachusetts. However, alternate work locations may also be considered, including Mabbett’s North Smithfield, RI or Alexandria, Virginia offices. In addition, this position will require travel and other specific project work opportunities on a short-term basis throughout the U.S.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related course of study.
  • 10 years of experience in wetland delineation, habitat delineation, impact assessment, and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and obtaining jurisdictional determinations.
  • Society of Wetland Scientists Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification, or other wetland certification, preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in field ecology, data analysis, writing, environmental regulatory compliance with ability to provide these services on both small and large projects. Experience with NEPA and working for the federal or state government a plus.
  • Excellent organizational and personal communication skills; ability to successfully interact with clients, staff, and peers clearly and directly; capable of functioning both independently and on a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office® products: Word and Excel. Familiarity with ArcGIS a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher, as well as Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and
  • AED Certifications are a plus.
  • This position requires field and outdoor work in all types of weather and terrain. Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 60 lbs.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, as well as pre-employment physical and drug screen, to include cannabis.
  • Must be able to obtain, as a minimum, OMB Position of Public Trust, and Federal Protective Services Favorable designations. Other clearance requirements for access to Federal facilities may be necessary and will be addressed on a case-by-case basis.
